This 28 page download supports CCSS 8.EE.A.1. Some of the pages are editable and therefore this is a ZIP FILE. It includes the following:
7 pages of notes for the teacher or to make copies of for student interactive notebooks. It covers what an exponent is and how it is written, along with the product, power, quotient, zero, and negative rules.
1/2 page color and black and white copies (3 each) of the rules for display in the classroom or to create personal student books or flip charts. Editable copies are also available of these in both word and pages format.
3 pages for students to create flip books to keep their own examples or definitions in their own words. An editable copy is also available for this in case you like to teach your rules in a different order.
10 practice assignments on 5 1/2 pages. These are short (3-4 questions each) to provide formative assessment, homework, practice, review, etc. They begin easy and get progressively more difficult. The first page asks students to identify the base, while the last page has students simplifying fractions and collecting like terms with exponents.
The answer key is included.
4/16/14 Update to include UK version with the "x" sign for multiplication instead of the "•" Error in the product rule fixed.
