Runaway Twin Game Board for Comprehension Review
Common Core Reading Standard Met: 1, 4
This is a game board based on the story Runaway Twin by Peg Kehret. Sunny is a 13-year old girl who decides to run away from her foster mom to try to find her twin sister- a sister that she hopes loves and misses her as much as she does. Her journey across the country takes her through many emotions and events. She has to fight through loneliness and hope, not to mention a terrifying tornado and some bullies. In the end, she finds that love and a sense of belongingness were always right in front of her.
As a teacher, all you need is some dice and little game pieces that can easily be made from a pencil eraser, paper, etc. Before the game begins, students will need to cut out the 12 comprehension game cards that are included. It is best if the game is copied on colored paper or cardstock. Students enjoy this fun reading activity. Teachers will love how the students are not only having a great time, but also reviewing reading skills while playing!
