This novel study works with the book Running For My Life by Lopez Lomong. It includes an introduction to the conflict of the Second Sudanese Civil War, chapter questions, quizzes and tests, writing ideas to engage students, and a final project. This novel study was used in a high school ELL Reading class.
Second Sudanese Civil War Webquest: provides students background information about the war Lopez Lomong experienced. As well as short and creative assignment designed to raise awareness about the issues facing South Sudan.
Lost Boys Documentary Video Questions: These questions follow a documentary about the lost boys of Sudan created by PBS.
Chapter Questions: includes important vocabulary and reading comprehension questions over each chapter.
Quizzes and tests: assess students' reading comprehension over the chapters.
Writing Ideas: Include alternate endings and opportunities for students to rewrite portions of the book from a different perspective.
Final Writing Assignment: at the end of the unit students will complete a writing assignment in which they must discuss how different literary devices contribute to the theme of the novel.
Final Project: Sticky Notebook project requires that students engage in interactive reading strategies for the entire novel.
