This packet includes directions and rubric for a creative group project in which students will create a board game inspired by the rise of Communism, the era of history of which George Orwell’s novella is an allegory. It is important for students to understand the events of the Russian Revolution and what comes after in order for them to fully appreciate the book as an allegory. This is a fun way to assess their comprehension of the historical events prior to reading the book and studying the allegorical elements. The students then spend a class period playing each other’s games; in addition to being a nice change of pace, this gives them the chance to assess their knowledge of Russian history.
If you are looking for notes over the Russian history covered in Animal Farm, I have these available as well as a sixty question multiple-choice and true/false test over the notes.
