Rwanda Genocide - Two Research Projects - This 4 page resource includes 2 research projects related to the Rwanda Genocide, including student handouts with detailed instructions for each, a marking rubric and a teacher guide for ease of use. The first project centers on the ways in which the Rwanda Genocide was a result of the legacy of European Imperialism and requires the students to research and analyze how the crisis between the Hutu and the Tutsis was a result of imperialism. The second project centers on the response of the world and the United Nations to the Rwanda Genocide and requires students to analyze the response and determine whether or not the Rwanda Genocide was the result of a failure of the world and the United Nations.
Both projects are useful when teaching students about the Rwanda Genocide and can either be used at different points of time or at the same time. The included marking rubric makes for ease of assessment and is great for assessing the student created display (poster, PowerPoint, video, etc.) required by both Rwanda Genocide projects. The teacher guide explains uses for the projects and how each can be facilitated in the classroom. As well the teacher guide includes web links for possible research sources related to the projects and the Rwanda Genocide.
This will make a great addition to your unit of study related to the Rwanda Genocide!
