In Safari Spin students create a spinning top from an old cd disk, cheap clay, a toothpick and a safari animal of his/her choice.
I created this activity so that my students would be motivated to use their understandings of:
~ reading numbers to the thousandths place
~ rounding numbers to the hundredths place
~creating coordinate pairs from a table
~graphing the pairs on a line graph, and analyzing data.
~adding, subtracting, and dividing decimals
Through this "spin the safari animal" activity students will analyze the class results by calculating the class mean and identifying the mode and median. At the end students will draw conclusions from the data.
