This is a color-cut-glue activity for a little Easter fun!
For: Pre-K and Kindergarten in speech therapy, RTI, ESL/ELL, and learning centers
Targets: Comprehension of prepositions, including the following:
in front of, behind, close to, far from, above, below
- 1 Word Cube + 1 Picture Cube
- Sentence Cut-Outs
- Picture Cut-Outs
- 1 Picture/Sentence Page
Preparing the Activity: Print all pages single-sided. Have crayons, scissors, and glue available. For very young children or to expedite the activity, prepare the Cubes and/or cut out the Sentence and Picture Cut-Outs beforehand.
How to Play: Review targeted prepositions with students. Then start by coloring and folding the Cubes with your students. I like to incorporate 1-2 step directions into this part (e.g., “Color the frog green and the bunny pink”). Once this is done, give each student
half a Picture/Sentence Page. The student then rolls the Picture Cube, finds the corresponding picture in the Sentence Cut-Outs page, colors, cuts and pastes that picture into the first box in the Sentence Strip. The student does the same for the second and third boxes by rolling the Word Cube and then the Picture Cube. The result is a complete sentence (e.g. “The frog is close to the bird”).
Next the student finds the correct pictures from the Picture Cut-Outs to illustrate
the sentence. He/she colors, cuts, and glues the pictures onto the space above the sentence.
The result is a sentence and corresponding illustration.
