Want your students to engage in high level vocabulary study? Are you teaching them to be "college ready"? My middle school AVID students had a great time learning these ACT words as Bell Ringers the second half of this school year! Yes, 7th graders, 80% of whom were ESL students, were correctly using these words in their speaking and writing. Challenge your students at any grade level with these 47 rigorous vocabulary words. Each of words has:
- An image to associate with the word (encourage your students to come up with their own image association!)
- Definition (have students practice their dictionary skills by looking up the word before you show the definition.)
- Synonyms and antonyms
- A sentence using the word in context (again, have students use the word in their own unique sentence to make the word stick in their brain.)
The powerpoint will look like the pictures are covering up the words in preview mode, but once you select "view show" I have created it to show the word first, then on the next click the image, then the definition, synonyms, antonyms, and sentence. This way you can take volunteers to share answers and talk through each part without having to give away all the answers to students at one time.
