SAVE 25%! Get kids THINKING! The 10 life science assessments in this collection are more than "definition style" exams! Each includes some application of knowledge (at the middle school level) of each topic, and contains simple diagrams, charts, or graphs to analyze. In this way, questions mimic NGSS-based standardized tests. This an entire year of summative assessments designed for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade life science classes.
Less copies and easy to correct - save time with our test packet format! All assessments included have a test question packet and a separate answer sheet. Test Question Packets can be reused again and again as a class set without recopying. And, all student answers are on one page so there is no page-flipping as you correct them.
ALL ANSWER KEYS INCLUDED!
10 TESTS IN THIS BUNDLE:
Cells & Organelles Test: Includes 31 multiple choice questions that cover basic characteristics of life, organelles, and the cell processes of photosynthesis and respiration. Also includes a multiple part short answer question on respiration that also reviews experimental design. NGSS MS-LS1-1 MS-LS1-2 MS-LS1-6
Human Body Systems Test: Covers NGSS MS-LS1-3, focusing on basic system functions and how systems function together to provide the body what it needs. There are NO detailed anatomy questions such as bone names, heart chambers, etc. Instead, this is an OVERVIEW of how the body systems work together to give a body what it needs to live. This test includes 30 multiple choice questions and two open response questions that have several parts to answer. (Also MS-LS1-8)
Ecosystems Test: Includes 33 multiple choice questions covering the following topics: ecosystems (biotic and abiotic factors, etc.), interactions between organisms (competition, symbiosis, etc.), energy in ecosystems (producer, consumer, etc.), food chains (food chains, energy pyramid, etc.), populations (limiting factors, carrying capacity, etc.), changes in populations (changes in resources), succession (primary and secondary), biodiversity, human impact on ecosystems. NGSS MS-LS2-1 MS-LS2-2 MS-LS2-3 MS-LS2-4 MS-LS2-5
DNA & Chromosomes Test: This assessment covers basic structure of DNA, homologous chromosomes, # of chromosomes in humans (23/46, does NOT use terms haploid/diploid), and male/female sex chromosome arrangement. There are 23 multiple choice questions and 1 2-part open response that requires a simple analysis of a karyotype for gender and if there are any abnormalities.
Sexual & Asexual Reproduction Test: This test covers asexual and sexual reproduction, directly reflecting the NGSS MS-LS1-4 and MS-LS3-2 standards. It includes 22 multiple choice questions and 2 open responses.
Heredity Test: This test has 40 multiple choice questions, and covers dominant/recessive, homozygous/heterozygous, genotype/phenotype, and basic, introductory comprehension of Punnet squares.
Fossil Record Test: Includes 18 multiple choice questions and two open response questions. This test covers an OVERVIEW of fossils and the law of superposition - not the nitty gritty detail. Students do NOT need to know exactly how fossils form or the geologic time eras. The focus of this test is on the law of superposition, and that Earth's life forms and climate have changed over time. NGSS MS-LS4-1
Evolution Test: Includes 30 multiple choice questions and 1 open response question. Topics covered include natural selection (MS-LS4-4 and MS-LS4-6), fossil record (MS-LS4-1), anatomical evidence for evolution; similar structures (MS-LS4-2), embryological evidence for evolution (MS-LS4-3), and similarities in DNA as evidence of evolution (1 question only).
Classification Test: Covers the basics of classification, including "big picture" ideas versus small details. Topics include the basics of scientific names, major examples and characteristics of organisms in each domain (mostly focused on animal, plant, fungi, and protist), being able to interpret simple dichotomous keys, and a basic understanding of how the classification system works. 30 multiple choice questions and 1 open response question.
LIFE SCIENCE FINAL EXAM: 2 VERSIONS OF A MIDDLE SCHOOL LIFE SCIENCE FINAL EXAM! Both of these tests could also be used as a pretest preassessment or a DDM (District Determined Measure). Topics Include: cells and organelles, generalizations about human body systems, photosynthesis and respiration (the basics), ecosystems (energy roles and food webs), asexual reproduction, sexual reproduction (including the basics of chromosomes & genetics), natural selection, evidence for evolution, and the very basics of classification.
