This resource includes a student worksheet for practice on the SBAC Listening section. It uses comedian Mike Birbiglia's hilarious story, "Sleepwalk With Me" from The Moth and This American Life. You can listen to the story here:
There are six selected response questions, all written using stems from the SBAC Listening released questions. There is also a short-constructed response based on literature standards. I have included a template to guide students in writing the SCR, as well as a completed example in the answer key.
I have also included a transcript of the story, if you choose to print it for your students. They won't have that on the SBAC, but it is helpful for the SCR.
These questions were written for 7th grade, but since the common core standards spiral, it would align well for a variety of grade levels.
***Please note-the speaker refers to the front desk clerk using an offensive term ("retarded"). In the transcript I changed it to "oblivious", and you may want to mute the audio version for just a moment when you play it in class.***
