This activity was created for fifth grade students, and was used as a STEM opportunity for them to make real world connections to the topic of biomes. Students are to create their own ecosystem in the form of a grass ecosystem, and are asked to observe and report growth when given water and sunlight. Then, the experiment is altered, where students are to feed their ecosystems lemon juice to see how their ecosystem changes. The goal of this experiment is to see how one alteration or change can effect an entire ecosystem. The activity includes an overview of ecology, a video resource on ecosystems, experiment directions, and final task questions. The activity is a pdf but can be converted to a word or google document.
