Students can be paired in groups of two, or more, or you can even have them conduct the hunt on their own.
The items they must find are “word-scrambled” so they must unscramble the word(using the hint) before each item can be searched for!
It is all about “quality” not quantity, students ONLY keep one of each item, but they should strive to keep the best item they can find. For example, it they are after a leaf, they should look for the best leaf they can find, not just a crushed little leaf.
At the conclusion of the hunt students will bring their items in the classroom and each object will be “judged” or given a rating and the points will be tallied to come up with a winner OR their can be no points awarded and each piece found can be discussed and shared in class to help students make connections and start great science discussions!
This is not a speed event, but every hunt can be finished within a recess period, or taking the class outside for a 25 minute Science class.
Complete the treasure hunt in groups, or independently. *Still discuss items that are collected back in the room and help make connections with/for students. Keep score if desired, and CHALLENGE students to create their own treasure hunt using any Science subject your are, or will be studying in the near future.
