"A fun way for my students to explore video game creation, coding and all the fun it entails! I have lots of students that lack motivation but are extra engaged with the idea they could become programmers or game designers one day. "

Description

Would you like to help your students make their own video game in Scratch? Well look no further! This COMPLETE resource will help both you and your students to create an old school retro style video game from scratch using Scratch.

This unit resource includes:

  • 50+ page Google Slide step-by-step tutorial
  • 17 YouTube instructional videos
  • Detailed pictures of scripts & code blocks
  • Multiple Google Doc worksheets & rubric
  • Project syllabus/agenda
  • Example finished game link

Students will learn to:

  • Create a theme with original characters
  • Design & make their own characters & levels
  • Make their characters move and interact with each other
  • Create trivia questions and answers
  • Build beginner & intermediate scripts / coding

This is a great project to engage students in creating their own video game. I have taught this unit with 6th grade, but it can certainly be adapted for grades 3 through 8. The best part is seeing your students take the ball and run and add so much more to their own games! It certainly is a whole lot of fun and educational at the same time.

If you find any errors or have a question, please go to the question tab at the top of the page and ask away! I'll try to get back to you in a timely fashion. Your feedback is always welcome!

From one teacher to another- THANK YOU!
