SELF-CONTROL Lesson "You Get What You Get" w 7 video PBIS Character Ed

Amazon.com Description of “You Get What You Get”: “Melvin throws fit after fit when he doesn't get what he wants. He must learn how to deal with disappointment. After all, you get what you get and you don't throw a fit.”

Character Education is a large and necessary component of every counseling program. I do many lessons each year teaching various character traits. This is one of my favorites! So many kids nowadays has difficulty in using self-control and restraining themselves from being impulsive. When they are exhibiting these impulsive behaviors, there are so many negative consequences.

By teaching self-control and helping students to understand its importance to having a mature and happy life, you are giving your students a great head start in life.

Using this presentation for your guidance lesson, you can easily help students to identify relational bullying behaviors of mean teasing and calling names. It also helps students to tell the difference between “good” teasing and “mean” teasing.

This presentation has 20 slides and includes a link to a video of the book, “You Get What You Get” being read aloud. The video runs approximately 4:30 minutes. It also has links to SIX OTHER videos that are directly related and provide additional information and have a rap song to help students connect and remember the concepts being taught.

Comprehension questions are included, as well as an activity that reinforces the concept of self-control and impulse control.

I would schedule 30-45 minutes for this lesson.

The PowerPoint is customizable and has a master slide that can be copied to make your own slides to personalize the lesson for your students and teaching style. The presentation includes both animations and transitions to hold your students' interest. Make your lesson come alive for your students and help them to connect to the concept in a fun way that will help them to remember the important lessons you need for them to remember.
