In my experiences over the years I have noticed a dramatic decline in the amount of students that are not playing pick-up invasion games in the neighborhood or organized invasion sports. They don’t even play tag or one of my favorites, Hide n GO seek! This down fall has led to the “fear of the ball” “fear of losing” and the lack of skill (dodging, fleeing) to play the game. Many students also lack the confidence to play and the knowledge to be successful with in the game. So back to the drawing board I went to create games that encourage my students.
This game will use a “Teaching Games for Understanding” approach that will ultimately help the students learn tactical strategies that can be used in other units. They will also let the students refine technical abilities in a less threating environment.
