Determining the coefficient of friction has never been so easy. After you have taught Newton's Second Law and friction, you can use this lab to provide your students the opportunity to experimentally acquire the coefficient of friction of their own SHOE!
With barely any supplies (shoes and spring scales) you can do this lab. Your students will acquire data, solve for coefficient of friction, graph data, identify variables, draw free body diagrams, use Newton's second law, analyze results and answer a few questions that will force a deeper conceptual understanding of friction.
This lab is NGSS aligned and ready to go for your STEM classroom. The kids will never forget this fun experiment!
