Cut out the two columns on the first page of this packet. I recommend printing on cardstock and then laminating the cards. Print them on colored cardstock for easy locating and reference. Additionally, these could be printed on paper and then glued to construction paper, tagboard, or cardstock and then laminated.
These cards are designed to help students have conversations and classroom discussions. Oftentimes classroom discussions flop because students aren’t sure what to say. These cards will help guide student thinking and give them the words they need to continue the conversation.
Cut the columns and rows apart and use as a sorting activity. If a copy of this sort is needed for record-keeping or sharing, students can copy it onto page two of this packet. Additionally, a photograph of the sort could also serve the record-keeping and sharing purposes.
Use page two of this document as a notetaking guide while displaying page one on an Elmo, overhead projector, or SmartBoard.
Page one could be enlarged into poster size by your local education agency or a local printing company for whole class use instead of individual conversation cards.
For your classroom set, write your name on the back of each SIB Card. For student copies, have each student write his/her name on the back.
