This is a one page worksheet in three parts. With the first part, students read the explanation of how silent letters work and see sample phonetic respellings of words knight/night and write/rite. In the second part, students find and cross out one or more silent letters in nine different words. In the third part, students do a matching exercise drawing lines from the underlined letters (within words) to the special sounds they represent. There are six of those. In all, students make fifteen responses. A black-and-white drawing of three knights is included because one of the samples is the word knight. The worksheet could serve as a quiz, test practice, homework, or for use in a literacy center. Being a word document this worksheet is easy to print-off and easy to edit if necessary. The second page is the answer key.
