THIS IS A GREAT WAY TO ENCOURAGE FUN ARTICULATION
This download is made with the non-reader in mind. It includes a set of colored circle picture cards to target articulation of the /CH/ sound while playing “ Simon Says”. The cards have different colored circle printed on them with pictured items containing an /CH/ sound super imposed on each circle. Students are asked to listen and find the sequence of colors the therapist has named and then say the words pictured on the cards aloud. A list of the target words used is included in order to help the speech language therapist identify the pictured items if necessary. This game can be used during individual therapy sessions or in small groups of 2 to 6 students. A title sheet is also included and can be used as a label for the Ziploc bag that the cards may be stored in.
Just print cards and student mats on cardstock, laminate for durability, cut apart cards and you are ready to go!
HOW TO PLAY
1 to 6 Players
Mix playing cards and give each student a “student mat” included in this packet.
Randomly choose a player to go first.
Spread out eight different color picture card circles (target words) on the table. The student will see a red, yellow, blue, green, orange, pink, purple and brown circle picture card on the table. Tell students they will be doing what Simon says…….. “ Listen and find the sequence of colors I say and then say the words aloud. “
Students will listen as the speech therapist calls out a sequence of four different colors. For example she might say “ red, brown, yellow, green.” After the therapist completes the sequence of colors the first player will pick up those colors in order and place them in order on their “student mat” and then verbally name the pictures (target words) on the colored circles. If the sequence is correct the player keeps the cards and if appropriate can use one of the words in the sequence in a sentence. If incorrect the cards are returned to the therapist. The therapist place eight new different color picture card circles on the table and the second player takes his/her turn. Play continues until all students have had a turn. Continue playing around the group until time has expired for the session or all the cards have been used.
** NOTE- Students may be challenged by giving them sequences of five, six or even seven colors to remember. **
The winner is the player who has the most cards at the end of the game.
