Product Description
Interest = (Principal)(Rate)(Time)

This is a simple formula for simple interest! The common core standards puts this skill in 7th grade (7.RP.A.3), but students that have a handle on basic percent and substituting for variables can do this and have FUN! I use it in 8th grade for a great end of year project that the kids love to do, it fills at least three days, and makes a great bulletin board. The lesson can easily be simplified for younger students or beefed up for high schoolers.

The file contains:

*** 32 slide PowerPoint presentation with examples, videos, brain breaks, practice, reflection/ higher thinking questions, and real world applications

*** 3 pages of guided notes so the students can easily follow along with the presentation

*** 1 Peer Review Record Sheet to allow students to critique other student's work

*** 12 Question Quiz Standardized Multiple Choice Questions with key

*** 2 page Practice sheet for independent work or homework. The questions are short answers with student justification required. The questions range from easy percent to more difficult challenging questions.

*** 1 page instructions/rubric/guidelines for students during project completion. I usually add this to the back of the guided notes.

*** Ticket Out the Door handout to go along with PowerPoint lesson

Your students will love this lesson! It is one that will really stick with them, and it's a challenging, real-world application!! Sometimes I do this during the first quarter of 8th grade - it gives me a real insight into where the kids are AND I have a captive audience. It really sets the stage for great things!
