This 5-day cross-curricular Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol (SIOP) unit is designed specifically for ELL students. My goal was to incorporate multiple ways for my students to interact with new vocabulary. The unit uses one fiction and one non-fiction text about tortoises and incorporates the books across each content area (i.e., math, social studies, writing, reading, and science). The non-fiction text is the adorable "Who Wants a Tortoise" by Dave Keane, while the non-fiction text is "Desert Tortoises" by Christopher Blomquist.
For each of the 5 subject-area lesson plans you will find:
