Theme: Planet Discovery and Origins

Content Objective(s):

Students will be able to do the following:

· The student will be able to read and comprehend textbook content in order to complete written worksheets that correspond to the text.

· The student will be able to model the relative sizes of the Sun and planets using familiar materials such as paint, Styrofoam, and random art supplies.

· The student will be able to describe the sizes of the Sun and planets in the Solar System

· The student will be able to compare to the distances between them.

· The student will be able to understand how the planets move around the sun.

· The student will be able to describe both orally and in writing the physical properties and characteristics of each planet.

· The student will be able to complete written homework assignments that correlate to the text.

Language Objective(s):

Students will be able to do the following:

· The student will be able to read the text and comprehend textbook content in order to complete worksheets that correspond to the text.

· The student will be able to display comprehension of textbook content through written participation in classroom worksheets that directly relate to the assigned reading.

· The student will be able to work with partners in an effective manner.

· The student will be able to write one-two paragraphs individually explaining their planet.

· The student will be able to discuss and share the characteristics of their group project to the class.

· The student will be able to listen and comprehend other students while they share their projects.

· The student will be able to understand and follow instructions when demonstrating how our solar system moves throughout space.

o This will include the model of how the Greeks thought that the Solar System moved around the Earth.

o This will include the correct model of how the solar system is centered by the Sun’s gravity.
