The hardest skill taught in SIPPS Extension is when to double the last consonant before adding a suffix to a CVC word and learning to drop the silent e before adding a suffix beginning with a vowel to a CVCe word. Being able to read these words is a whole other issue. This fun card game gives students practice with all of the above.
It includes 2 games played like UNO. One game is for beginners and the other more advanced. Players must identify vowel sounds and suffixes to match cards.
Suffixes used in this game include: ed, ing, s, ly and er. (Note that suffixes could not be added to some words, such as cod.) Many commonly confused words were included in the game, such as hop-hope and rob-robe. Extra cards were also included for words that are especially tough for your students.
(The cards can also be used to play Go Fish, Concentration or Old Maid.)
