Although college entrance exams are constantly evolving and changing in the areas of format and focus, mastery of a certain skill set can enhance the test-taker’s ability to score well in the areas of reading, language, and essay writing. Take these mini-tests and then read the answers and explanations carefully. Strong understanding is the foundation for skills that will serve you well through any college entrance exam.
This 19-page lesson includes 48 questions over grammar, word choices, phrases, sentence construction, and punctuation. Answer keys not only provide correct answers but explain why other answers are incorrect. An additional twelve questions provide practice in reading a passage and determining organization and/or development strategies that are shown or could be used to improve the passage. Lastly, an essay section challenges the student to develop a point of view, supporting his or her position with examples, experience, details, and/or observation. Hints for analyzing good writing are also a part of this section.
