“SKIN AND BONES”
Bring some fun and excitement into your classroom with this unit. Add some color, sounds, and humor. Students learn when they are entertained while they are being taught. Interaction is fundamental and inescapable while learning. This 2-3 week unit is an introduction to human physiology, created by me and successfully used and modified by other teachers for many years. From Elementary through Middle School or at home, students of all abilities will find it motivational, efficient and effective. Many of my students had special needs. Slight modification will allow you to tailor instruction to meet their individual situations, and to a variety of grade levels and abilities.
Included in this unit are an 80 slide show, notes, unit organizer; complete with goals, 13 homework assignments with keys, a full size skeletal system mock up lab activity, 5 classwork assignments with keys, 2 film worksheets with keys, and a unit test with key. A teacher guide outlines instruction for novice through the experienced instructors.
Following units are MUSCLES, NERVOUS SYSTEM, CIRCULATION and RESPIRATION, DIGESTION, and DISEASE. “Curly” can be used and added to with systems from each of my subsequent, above units as well. My kids named this mock up “Curly” because each time the project is worked on it can be rolled up for storage and transportation. With each opening, the project wants to stay rolled (curled). Thus, the name “Curly”.
It is a complete unit not relying on a textbook. For the knowledgeable instructor a textbook may or may not be needed. For home schooling, supplementary backup resources may be needed.
