The target skills in this product are
* reading the word,
* matching the CCVC word to its picture, then
* slotting the word (fine motor/hand-eye co-ordination)
* copying the word
Each word has tabs that fit into slots on the picture card. They are easy to make and the multi-sensory nature of the activity will cater for those students who will benefit from the hand-eye co-ordination and the novelty that most worksheets don't offer. This is an ideal addition to a school's literacy program as it will last for years once prepared, and will save photocopying and paper use in the long term.
The cards can be used as a group activity to consolidate CCVC words or you could also use them as in-class intervention for those students who you know need more practice but not more worksheets.
There are enough word cards to consolidate each short vowel separately and you can then mix them up to target phonemic discrimination of short vowels with words like 'shut' and 'shot', 'drag' and 'drug' or consolidate single phoneme digraphs with 'shin', 'thin' and 'chin'. There is a list of the words I have used in the PREVIEW with a small sample of the product for you to gauge its suitability for your needs.
