If you're like me, you've found the new conversion to the CCSS a bit overwhelming. There are language based standards EVERYWHERE! Spread across the categories of Reading Literature, Reading Informational Text, Reading Foundational Skills, Speaking and Listening, Writing, and the catch-all category entitled just “Language,” it’s a time-consuming, intensive search to tease out the standards that most directly apply to me as a Speech-Language Pathologist. Although there are plenty of existing charts, organizers, and methods of grouping the Standards, I could not find anything that grouped language skills the way an SLP would. So I created it! Here is a new spin on organizing the CCSS- from the perspective of a Speech-Language Pathologist!
I dug through all of the standards and grade levels, then selected the most "speechified" standards- those standards that directly related to what I work on with my students every day. I then broke these standards down by grade level and organized them as an SLP would- in to the five components of language (from Bloom & Lahey's model): Semantics, Syntax, Morphology, Phonology, and Pragmatics!
Please note that this is not meant to be a comprehensive list of standards. This product is designed to be a quick go-to; an easy-access, at-a-glance, find-your-most-used-language-targets-quick-sheet! NOT ALL STANDARDS ARE INCLUDED! With this tool, you can glance over the standards and quickly and easily identify when specific skills are expected to be taught/learned in the general curriculum. You can also easily tie the standards to a specific language-based goal area.
All Elementary grades (K-5) are included in this download. Standards numbers are also included, and are listed in the following format: Strand.GradeLevel.Number. (For example, Speaking and Listening, 2nd Grade, Standard 1, would be listed as: SL.2.1).
