*This resource is a manual for students to use to learn how to identify, operate, and balance the light meter on 30 different varieties of 35mm film cameras.*
For years when teaching my photography students how to locate, operate and balance a light meter, I would pass out my variety of 35mm slr cameras to them and I found it incredibly time consuming and frustrating to have to go to each individual student and teach them how to use the light meter in their specific camera. It was an incredible waste of our class time.
Since I didn’t have all of the original manuals to pass out to the students I decided to make my own that focused solely on how to use the light meter. This “Light Meter Manual” was created by scanning imagery from the original camera manuals and in some cases the written instructions about the light meter. I then wrote simple instructions for each camera to pair with the images I scanned: “What the light meter looks like” and “How to use it”.
Now, when I teach about the light meter, I pass out cameras along with this manual and have my students look up the camera model and teach themselves how to operate and balance the light meter. It’s been an amazing resource in my classroom and I hope it’s just as helpful to you!
