Each flower pedal denotes a sound in each word (some pedals will have 2 letters on it but they represent 1 sound (e.g., ai = “long ‘a’”). You can have your students cut the pedals apart from a center and build the words by reassembling the pedals into flowers. They can color the pedals as they say each sound in the word. You could have them trace over the letters with their fingers or with markers, etc. as they say the corresponding sounds (on paper or even on a SMART Board). Incorporate as many modalities as possible when working on this blend. You could also have the students use Playdoh and shape it to fit around the outside of the pedal. Be creative!
