Goal setting is a life skill. But, kids aren't born knowing how to set goals. We have to help them learn how to set realistic goals and work toward meeting goals. This packet does just that!
There is a lesson plan that helps kiddos understand SMART Goals. Actually, there are 2 lessons, one for grades 2-3, and one for grades 4-5. The explicit lessons include recommended tests so you don't have to search for those. There are also pages that you can print or project while you are teaching the lesson to give your students a visual image.
The lesson can be done in 1 day or broken across a few day. Grade 4-5 can complete the lesson in 1 day. When I do this lesson with my 2/3 combo class, I split the lesson into 3 days.
After you teach the lesson, plan to meet with small groups of students over the next few days to help them finalize their SMART Goal. The recording sheets help the students write a goal step by step. You will want to check and approve the goals for the first few goals.
After the goals have been approved by you, then the students begin working toward meeting their goal. This packet includes daily recording logs so students can record their effort in meeting their goal.
There is also a editable parent letter to help parents understand SMART Goals and how they can help their child.
Finally, the students need a way to track their progress toward their goal. There are 16 different graphs for students to record their daily or weekly progress. Just pick the graph that works best for you.
Basically, this packet has everything that you need to help your students learn about setting goals and working toward meeting them.
Happy goal meeting!!
