The elves have been busy at work building Function Robots to help your students make sense of this often confusing concept. This Christmas-themed SMARTBoard file has 10 different Function Robots, each of which follows a different rule, and has 4 numbers to put through the robot.
Students drag a number all the way though the robot, from the input to the output and try to determine what the rule or function of that robot is. Then, they predict what number will come out when each of the three other numbers are put through the robot. Each page is self-checking by clicking on Santa.
There is a printable recording sheet to go along with the file so that everyone records their answers and participates; not just the students going to the SMARTBoard. After completing a few together, you can have students complete the paper independently, and check answers together on the SMARTBoard. Answer key is also included.
Please note that you must have Smart notebook software to open this file. If you are unsure, download my free winter attendance file for the SMARTBoard to see if it opens.
The Function Robot also appears in my Common-Core Aligned SMARTBoard Calendar for Grades 4-5, in Day File Sets 5-8, although the pages in this set are different from the ones in the calendar files.
Thank-you so much for checking out this file. Follow me to hear about new products!
