This is a social story meant to help children to practice essential street safety skills. It provides an overview of what street safety should look like, including how to safely cross a street, the various crosswalks, lights and helpers (e.g., patrols, other adults, friends) that can assist children in crossing the street, and how to properly use these tools and strategies in order to cross the street safely. It also mentions the importance of not looking down or at a phone or other electronic device, as this is dangerous! Rather, the script stresses the importance of paying attention and being alert.
It is in PDF format, and so can easily be printed and/or laminated. It is presented in a simple, fun and visual format, and can be used across all ages and developmental levels.
I have personally used it in individual and group format, in elementary and special needs junior high/high school classrooms. Feel free to edit, as you feel is appropriate, to your specific situation/needs. I hope it helps you, help your students!
