90.95 MB | 4 sets of 8 pages with 9 cards on each page pages
This package contains 5 SETS of CARDS:
1. 72 CVC picture cards with no words
2. 72 CVC picture and word cards
3. 72 CVC picture and word cards with vowels in red
4. 72 CVC picture and word cards with blanks for vowels
5. 72 CVC word cards
Students begin by discriminating between the short vowel sounds with word and picture cards. They then move on to the red vowel cards and then from there to the blank vowels. These steps involve both visual and auditory memory skills. By the time they get to the picture only card they should be able to write the whole word. Each subtle step develops their phonemic awareness and builds their confidence in reading and writing CVC words.
This is the first package in the series of SORT IT cards. I use them for 1:1 and small groups targeting specific skills. You could also use them in a LITERACY CENTRE with the blank cards and requiring more able students to write the missing words for consolidation.
I have laminated the cards and made little POST BOXES. Depending on the target skill, students 'post' cards in a matching box, saying the sound as they do. This contributes to the multi-sensory nature of this activity which is especially important for beginners or those experiencing difficulty with auditory discrimination. They see the word, they say/hear the word then they actively place the card according to the sound.
This is a critical area of skill development and is one of the building blocks of successful reading. This is the type of activity that you can do for a short spell every day. It only takes a few minutes and it's the perfect way to begin an RTI lesson.
I have included directions for 3 card games and a DONKEY card to add a fun element to learning.
I have used a DYSLEXIA FRIENDLY FONT to be inclusive all learners.
