This package includes 3 sets of cards with 135 cards in each set.
1. PICTURES
2. PICTURES and WORDS with BLANKS for long vowel sound
3. PICTURES and WORDS with VOWELS in RED

This set comprises 3 of 5 sets which have been split due to upload limits. The 5 sets target graduated difficulty levels that develop a student's ability to identify the long vowel sounds and spelling patterns associated with those sounds. This level of phonemic awareness contributes to growing confidence in reading and writing.

I use these cards in a multi-sensory way. I have laminated them and choose the cards that target a particular skill, e.g.,
- CVCe (Magic e or Bossy e)
- CVVC patterns (when two vowels go walking, the first does the talking)
- sleepy a (as in bread, thread, feather)
- exceptions (as in shield, island, icicle, ivy)

I have made little boxes to look like Post Boxes and I label them according to the skill I am wanting to develop. The student 'posts' the card saying the sound, i.e., " a, as in cake". I also teach the terminology 'long vowel sounds' and 'short vowel sounds'.

As any long-term teacher will tell you, it's the vowel sounds that present the most difficulty for some students. Using the cards is a fun and motivating way that students can hear and see the words over and over.

Although these cards are ideal for 1:1 and small group RTI, they can also be added to a Literacy Centre. I have included the directions for 3 games: Memory, Snap and Donkey. There's a DONKEY card in the set as well. Simply choose the card pairs for the elements you want to consolidate and teach the rules and it becomes an independent activity.

I have used a DYSLEXIA FRIENDLY FONT to be inclusive of all learners.
