This download is made with the non-reader in mind. Students play a game while developing expressive vocabulary skills. Students are asked to say the item pictured each time they take their turn while playing the game. For additional practice students can also state information about the item pictured.
All cards are shuffled and dealt facedown equally among the players. One player removes the top card of his/her stack and places it face up on the playing surface within reach of all players. If the card played is NOT a “SLAM JAM!” Card, the player should name the picture on it. For added practice have the player also state where the animal lives or the sound that the animal makes for example if a pig is played the player would say “ pig who lives on a farm” or “pig who says oink oink”. Play continues in a clockwise manner until a “SLAM JAM!” card is placed on the pile. When this happens, all players may attempt to “SLAM” the pile with the hand they used to place the card. Whoever covers the stack with his/her hand first takes the entire pile of cards. The cards are then shuffled and added to the bottom of his/her stack. When a player has run out of cards, he/she is out of the game. The game continues until one player has collected all of the cards. If you run short of time, the player with the most cards at the end of the allotted time period wins the game.
If a player SLAMs any card other than the “SLAM JAM!” Card, he/she gives one card from his own pile, facedown to the opponent who played the card that fooled him/her.
