Aligns with First Grade Superkids™ – SPELLING WORD BUMP! Partner Game

The spelling words in this game are for the Superkids™ Reading Series 2017.

Great for Reading Centers, Fast Finishers, Small Groups, and Morning Work!

Spelling Word BUMP! is an easy and fun way to keep your students engaged while practicing their spelling words. This partner game is the perfect addition to your reading centers and stations.

Included you will find 33 game boards (one game sheet with review words and two game sheets for Units 1-16) and suggestions to differentiate in your classroom. Each board contains the 10 spelling words that correspond with that week’s lesson.

Needed: a pair of dice, a game board, and 10-12 linking cubes per player (Each player needs a different color.)

Directions for BUMP! SPELL THE WORD

Player 1 rolls the dice and finds that sum on the game board. The player reads the word and spells it* without looking at the game board. If the word is spelled correctly, Player 1 places a cube on that word. If the word is spelled incorrectly, the player’s turn is over. Player 2 continues in the same manner. If Player 2 rolls a number that is already occupied by Player 1, then Player 2 must read and spell the word correctly in order to bump Player 1 off that word. If the word is spelled incorrectly, the turn is over. If a player lands on a space with his/her own cube, the player may connect a second cube to it which “locks in” the word. Once a word is locked, that word may no longer be used. Play continues until a player uses all his/her cubes. The player with the most locked words wins the game!

*You may choose to have the students spell the words orally or write them on a

white board. (I use the white boards because it gives the

players the opportunity to check the words together.)
