This active and somewhat wacky game is perfect for reinforcement of any skill that requires practice or drill of skills like sight words, math facts, articuluation drill, fluency skill practice, answering questions, etc.
This download includes the open ended version of the game as well as decks for addressing /s/, /z/, and /s/ blends in speech therapy.
Where does the DIY come in? Well, you will need a Pringles can to make the game!
Detailed instructions with photos for making this game are included- it's super simple and quick to do.
This download includes
1) an open ended version of SPLAT (6 pages)
2) an /s/ and /z/ combo version of SPLAT (6 pages)
3) an /s/ blends version of SPLAT! (6 pages)
* Each deck contains 54 cards. For the sound specific decks, that’s 54 different sound targets!
The 3 decks are easy to prep and they store neatly right inside the Pringles can when you aren’t using them.
To play, set a timer for the amount of time you have to play, or stop play when the session is over. Place the deck you are using facedown on the table.
For the open ended game, have your students perform any skill of your choosing the desired number of times - then allow them to pick a card. For the sound specific decks, have students say the word/picture on the card they pick X number of times (or make a phrase or sentence about it).
If they pick a “be careful not to splat” card, they should simply place it carefully on top of the can (which I call a tower). If it stays there securely, their turn is over. If that card or any other cards go SPLAT (falls off the tower), that player must take all cards that fell. If they pick a “splat challenge” card they must follow the directions on the card. The same procedures apply.
The object of the game is to stack cards carefully without making any go SPLAT! Players that knock down cards must take them. At the end of play (either when the session ends, the timer rings or there are no more cards to play), the player with the MOST cards is the loser and the player with the LEAST cards is the winner.
Play with the lid on the can for an easy game and without the lid for a bigger challenge.
Keep checking back for even MORE versions of SPLAT for both articulation AND language skills!
Print, follow directions for prep, and play!
