This engaging activity seamlessly meshes Math & Science together! Each task card displays one of 3 plant needs or one of 5 stages of the plant life cycle. Along with the image, there is a math problem to solve. Math questions involve number operations, and the majority are word problems.
Paste the large flowerpots on an envelope, bowl, basket, etc. Students must sort the plant cards into the correct flowerpot, according to the answer to the problem. Each flowerpot will have the following cards: dirt, seed packet, raindrops, sunlight, a seed, a seed sprout, a seedling and a grown crop. All questions will have an answer of 50, 64, or 72.
How does your Garden Grow? Scavenger Hunt:
Place the plant needs & life cycle cards around your classroom, or in the hallway. Give each student a recording sheet. They must search for the plant cards that have an answer equal to each of the watering cans in the chart. Copy the question down into the chart. Students must record all 24 questions.
Alternatively, cut the charts out individually. Give each student only 1 watering can chart. They must search to find the plant cards that would go into their basket, and copy the question down. Students only record the 8 questions that match their watering can. Each watering can requires the following: 3 plant needs cards & 5 plant life cycle cards.
