This log as created has activities for 64 days worth of individual reading activities.
A different skill is addressed every 6 entries for fiction (such as character development and vocab building). With the non-fiction entries, students both summarize and react to what they've read. Students practice finding MLA bibliographic info for each text they read.
I use them with individually chosen fictional novels and non-fiction current articles based on student reading level and interest, but they can be used in literature circles as well. I usually allow students to read silently for 15 minutes before having them fill out the log.
I start my semester more focused on literature and then move into non-fiction reading and writing, but students could alternate on a set schedule between both sections throughout the year.
Anything in the file could be copied additionally to provide extra days.
