Use the selection map in a week-long study of expository/informational text.
Monday: Author's Purpose-choose a verb and complete the statement with a general main idea of the selection
Tuesday: Choose a section to word the main idea from (Topic plus Most Important Idea) or write the main idea of the entire selection (Topic plus Most Important Idea) then add the supporting details
Wednesday: Choose one (or two) facts then have students draw conclusions from each fact.
Thursday: Find a cause and effect relationship in the selection.
Friday: Locate and discuss 1 (or 2) text feature from each column, then document why the author included it.
