This resource was created as a result of students sitting at there desk and not writing or saying, "I don't know what to write." Or writing a few sentences for the paragraph and thinking they were done. I try to avoid formula writing, but with struggling students, special education students, English Language Learners and students that just flat out refuse to write - I have given them a technique to use that really has made a difference. We are still practicing and I see improvement every day. This will really work for all students but I encourage the better writers to continue as they have been doing and to use this technique only as a reminder of what can go in a well developed paragraph for Expository Writing. I have included graphic organizer, hamburger menu, questions to ask and answers to questions which are then turned into the paragraph. Lots of examples are included. I took the students central idea and main ideas and showed them by modeling what it all can look like. Hope this is helpful. The colorful menu can be cut out and glued into the student's writing journal for easy reference.
