This STAAR Persuasive Writing prompt asks students to think about the concept of honesty. I used this prompt after teaching Emily Dickinson's poem, "Tell the Truth, but Tell it Slant."
Students did a good job on both sides of the argument with this one and really were interested in the prompt. This was one where students really needed to brainstorm their reasons before writing because most were not wanting to pick a side. This helped me emphasize the importance of choosing for the sake of writing to them.
This is intended for test prep for 10th grade, but easily could be used in any high school grade.
This prompt is formatted similar to what students will see on STAAR.
