Students in Texas all have to face and endure the STAAR Test at almost all grade levels. The STAAR Reading Test is no exception. This test includes four selections with multiple choice questions.
Unknown (realistic fiction)
Dear Mr. President (poem)
Stolen Idea/How to Obtain a Patent (biographical nonfiction/procedural text)
The Tree of Life (informational nonfiction)
The test has 38 questions in the same format as the State test. An answer key is included.
This unit was designed to teach students how to perform successfully on the STAAR Reading Test by building their testing stamina and practice with test taking strategies learned in class.
This edition is geared toward third and fourth grade. However, the test could be given to fifth graders who struggle in reading or second graders who excel in reading.
Feel free to use this test as a classroom assessment, a modeling tool, a tutoring lesson, or a homework assignment exposing parents to the format of the test. The sky's the limit!
The key to passing this test is early intervention and practice!
