This is a rotating 6-station review for the Algebra 1 STAAR test over Quadratic Functions. The Algebra 1 STAAR typically has anywhere from 3 to 4 questions (see my STAAR Analysis
) just over Quadratic Functions on it and these questions are not the easiest. This does not include the "Solving Quadratics" questions that are on the test. Therefore, this topic MUST be reviewed before the students take the test. This resource includes a comprehensive, rigorous 6-station review over this topic.
Students are broken up into 6 groups and rotate through the classroom to 6 different stations covering the topic. The first station includes a fun activity that reviews the basic vocabulary of quadratics: vertex, axis of symmetry, zeros, y-intercept and maximum/minimum. The students are given 8 graphs and clues about the graphs. They use the clues to find the correct graph. There are 8 questions. This is an abbreviated version of my Quadratic Functions Activity
Next, the students spend time at two stations reviewing domain, range and transformations of quadratic functions. See my Transformations of Quadratics
for more information. This practice sheet is included in its entirety.
Another station asks the student to find specific quadratic function values. The questions and functions are written in function notation. Students can find the answers by hand or by using a calculator. This activity is an abbreviated version of my Finding Function Values (Quadratics)
Finally, through two more stations the students visit actual STAAR questions hung around the room to test their knowledge of quadratic functions. An answer document is included.
A homework assignment containing actual STAAR questions is also included in this resource. These questions are included for free for your convenience.
Directions for all activities, a classroom schematic, and keys for all documents included. Actual STAAR questions included for free. This is a full day's worth of reviewing quadratic functions. You've taught them the material. Now, let them do the work!
