This is a rotating 6-station review for the Algebra 1 STAAR test over Solving Quadratics. The Algebra 1 STAAR typically has anywhere from 2 to 4 questions (see my STAAR Analysis
) just over Solving Quadratics on it. This does not include the "Quadratic Functions" questions that are also on the test. Together, these two topics make up 6 to 8 questions on the test. Therefore, these two topics MUST be reviewed before the students take the test. This resource includes a comprehensive, rigorous 6-station review over Solving Quadratics. Also available and recommended to be used prior to this review activity is my Quadratic Functions STAAR Review Activity
In this review activity, students are broken up into 6 groups and rotate through the classroom to 6 different stations covering the topic. The first station provides the student with 2 quadratic equations to be solved by using the quadratic formula. One question works out nicely with a perfect square discriminant and the other does not.
At the second station, students solve quadratics by graphing on the calculator. There are 6 comprehensive questions at this station.
Another station asks the student to find the solutions to a quadratic equation by looking at a table of its values. This is not intuitive (although it is easy) for the student, so exposure to this kind of question is helpful for the test. There are 4 questions.
Another station asks the student to either fill out the Solving Quadratics page in my Algebra 1 EOC Review Book
and/or work on a double-sided page of actual STAAR questions (provided for free). (These questions can also be assigned for homework).
Finally, through two more stations the students visit actual STAAR questions hung around the room to test their knowledge of solving quadratics. An answer document is included.
A homework assignment containing actual STAAR questions is also included in this resource. These questions are included for free for your convenience.
Directions for all activities, a classroom schematic, and keys for all documents included. Actual STAAR questions included for free. This is a full day's worth of reviewing quadratic functions. You've taught them the material. Now, let them do the work!
