This is a two-day review activity to prepare students for Solving Systems of Equations on the State of Texas STAAR test. The Algebra 1 STAAR typically has 5 questions (see my STAAR Analysis
) over Systems of Equations on it and these questions are not the easiest. Therefore, this topic MUST be reviewed before the students take the test. This resource includes a comprehensive 2-day review over this topic.
The first day focuses on the solving techniques. Students are in groups of 4 to 5 and rotate through 6 stations to review solving by graphing, substitution, and elimination (including with multiplication). Key included. Actual STAAR questions are included for free to use as homework to supplement the review.
The second day focuses on solving systems word problems. The review begins first by setting up systems of equations through pictures. Then this concept is extended to similar word problems without pictures. Finally, the review ends with a PowerPoint Activity introducing the concept of "finding two numbers" problems. This, then leads into a group activity that helps students work together to solve these kinds of word problems.
Check out my Systems Word Problems Mini-Bundle
for more information concerning this day of the review. This STAAR review contains abbreviated versions of all of the resources found in this mini-bundle. Key included. A second double sided page of actual STAAR questions is included for free to use as practice on the concept.
