This product is designed to be used in middle school classrooms.
In this product you will find warm-up questions about excerpts from short stories in the public domain. All of the texts included are fiction stories. The stories included are:
“A Retrieved Reformation” by O. Henry
The Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain
“The Ransom of Red Chief” by O. Henry
“The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” by Washington Irving
The Adventures of the Speckled Band by Arthur Conan Doyle
“The Finish of Patsy Barnes” by Paul Laurence Dunbar
“The Story-Teller” by Saki
“A Piece of Steak” by Jack London
There are a total of 20 warm ups with 2 questions per warm-up. (40 questions total) Some of the excerpts are used more than once. (There are a total of 8 excerpts)
All of the questions are open ended. The questions are designed to look like questions they may see on the STAAR test. The questions that are asked have been created using STAAR stems and modeled from the released STAAR passages. Because the questions are open ended, there is a possibility for more than one answer to the questions, however, I have included a possible answer key for these questions.
I am including this as a word document. This allows the warm-ups to be completely edited by you.
