Students use the S.T.E.A.L. method for characterization. "S" for what the character says. "T" for the character's thoughts. "E" for everyone else's thoughts/feelings about the character. "A" for the character's actions. "L" for the character's looks.
For the final verdict, the students write a few sentences of their final synopsis based on the information above. Sometimes I have the students combine two adjectives in their "final verdict."
An example is included from the novel "Animal Farm."
