Celebrate Innovation Day or use ANY DAY to challenge your class!
This cross-curricular unit celebrates Innovation Day, February 16 each year. This unit from STEAM AHEAD with Music is the fourth in a new series celebrating international days on the calendar. The unit has been taught but updated, so feedback will be great! Musical composition and graphic notation using the engineering design process is the big idea in a two-lesson short unit for grades 2-8 with modifications for lower and upper grades included. Also included are templates for composition in 2-, 3-, 4-, and 5-time for easy application of graphic notation principles.
The unit features composition templates and a variety of videos, listening examples, and teacher guides to assist in teaching these simple lessons. Even if you’ve never composed a musical piece before, these easy guides will help you and your students to do so with success. Worksheets, note-taking guides, examples, listening suggestions, and a composition rubric will support the learning in this out-of-the-ordinary creative unit. Challenge and extension ideas are included as well.
The unit may be used in the music classroom, but is designed for and accessible to the classroom teacher with little or no experience.
