In this STEAM challenge, students engineer and build their own Sights and Smells Holiday Book.
Students will be engaged in exploring, discovering, learning, and creating with this holiday STEAM project! Each child will construct their own “see and smell” booklet through experimentation. This project can be part of a winter holiday celebration and/or it can be the culminating activity when learning about the five senses.
Please be sure to check with parents or guardians for any allergies prior to starting this activity. Students will not be consuming food. However, there will be exposure to possible allergens. Please see the material list.
STEAM encourages higher learning concepts that spark curiosity. This project will help your students develop questions, problem solve, and find answers.
Science: Students will use nature, earth sciences, and chemistry to create their sights and smells booklet.
Technology: Students will use available classroom technology such as computers or tablets to research the various materials they will use to create their booklet. A couple great websites for children’s research are Kidtopia and Infotopia.
Engineering: Students will design and build their book pages with provided resources.
Art: Students will use color, materials, and scents to make their booklet memorable.
Math: Students will use sorting, pattering, and one-to-one counting skills.
